Selena Quintanilla Perez (1971-1995) was a Tex-Mex pop star and cultural icon. Known mononymously as Selena, she was dubbed the "Queen of Tejano Music" and pioneered the genre's entrance into mainstream pop.Born in Texas to Mexican-American parents, Selena began performing as a child with her family band Selena y Los Dinos. She released her first album at age 12. Her talent and charisma earned her widespread popularity in the Spanish-language music scene.Selena's crossover album Live!
