Dr. Mutulu Shakur

Dr. Mutulu Shakur: A Revolutionary Healer Empowering Communities through acupuncture and activism, Dr. Mutulu Shakur, born in 1950, is a remarkable figure who has left an indelible mark on the pursuit of social justice, community empowerment, and healing. In 1968 he signed the Declaration of Independence of the Provisional Government of the Republic of New Afrika (PGRNA) and was a founding member of the New Afrikan People's Organization (NAPO) in 1984. He was also a dedicated doctor who harnessed the power of acupuncture to uplift and heal communities.

Dr. Shakur's expertise extended beyond the realm of traditional medicine. Recognizing the profound impact of holistic healing practices, he embraced acupuncture as a means to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of marginalized communities. His work in acupuncture was particularly groundbreaking, as he recognized its potential to alleviate pain, cure drug addiction, restore balance, and empower individuals. He was convicted in connection with breaking Assata Shakur out of prison as well as a string of robberies that dozens of Black activists were also charged and convicted of. Despite his imprisonment, his contributions to acupuncture and community healing continue to inspire and uplift.
